St Mary's CE Primary About Us

In-Year Admissions

St Mary’s CE Primary School is delighted to welcome new pupils throughout the year. Though they may not join in September, children who are transferred to the school during the academic year will receive the same welcome and introduction to life at St Mary’s as all other new starters. Our staff will make sure that the transition is a smooth and comfortable one, supporting new pupils in making friends and becoming familiar with the school.

If you wish to consider joining St Mary’s we strongly recommend a visit to appreciate the friendly atmosphere of the school and our extensive grounds.

Applying for an In-year Transfer

No matter the reason, if you are considering moving your child to another school, we would love them to join us at St Mary’s CE Primary School. As we are a voluntary controlled school, the in-year admissions process is governed by Wiltshire Council, who ultimately make the decision on the outcome of your application. This also means that applications should be made to the council, not our school.

Joining a new school can be a daunting experience, especially during the academic year. However, you can rest assured that our staff do everything possible to ensure children make a smooth transition.

At St Mary’s CE Primary School, we have a framework in place to support the introduction of new pupils. Guidance and assistance is made available to new starters at all times, whether they need help settling in or simply want to talk. Their teacher will facilitate their integration with the class and keep a close eye on their social progression, as well as their learning.

If you have any questions about your child’s transition to our school, please call us on 01225 782223.

To apply for an in-year transfer to St Mary’s CE Primary School, you must complete an in-year school application form and return it to Wiltshire Council’s schools admissions team. Please send your completed form to:

School Admissions Team
Wiltshire Council
County Hall
Trowbridge
Wiltshire
BA14 8JN

After receiving your application form, the council’s schools admissions team will write to you within 20 school days to inform you of their decision. However, applications for Wiltshire schools are considered a term in advance of your requested move date. In these cases, the 20-school-day turnaround time does not apply, and a decision on the application will be made as soon as possible.

When an application is successful, an offer will be made to transfer your child to one of your preferred schools, based on the admissions criteria of the school and, as far as possible, your preferences.

Where it is not possible to offer a place at one of your preferred schools, and you live in Wiltshire, a place will be allocated by the council’s schools admissions team. In the event that your application to St Mary’s CE Primary School is unsuccessful, you do have the option to appeal the decision.

If you wish to discuss the school admissions procedures, please contact Wiltshire Council’s customer services admissions team on 01225 713010 or visit their website for further details.
